The MM3787 series are protection ICs developed using a high-voltage CMOS process, designed to provide overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, temperature protection, and cell balance control for rechargeable Lithium-ion or Lithium-polymer batteries. They can detect overcharge, overdischarge, discharge overcurrent, charge overcurrent, and short-circuit conditions in battery packs consisting of 4 to 7 cells. Additionally, temperature monitoring using an external NTC thermistor and active cell balancing are supported. The internal circuitry includes a voltage detector, reference voltage source, oscillator, counter circuit, and logic circuit, among other components. Multiple ICs can be used in a stacked configuration, enabling a low-cost and space-efficient protection solution for battery packs with more than 7 cells.
