Token Electronics has introduced a new line of ultra-thin, high-power, high-current mica braking resistors (ASM Series). Designed as a cost-effective alternative to traditional space-saving solutions,Token’s ultra-thin ASM mica resistors use flat wirewound technology to reduce current loss, while maintaining excellent thermal stability and high power handling, all within the same compact package. The ASM resistor consists of a resistive wire wound around a mica substrate and insulated on both sides by mica sheets. To ensure symmetrical expansion and optimum stability under high impulse loads, the resistor is enclosed in a thin metal alloy case made of aluminium and zinc, and the resistive winding uses high-quality strip wire made of CuNi, NiCr or CrAl alloys. Thanks to its low-profile design, the ASM mica power resistor can be easily mounted on the rear side of a Voltage-to-Frequency Converter (VFC). It is particularly well-suited for use as an internal braking resistor or as a series resistor for current limiting during the charging phase of the intermediate circuit capacitor in the frequency converter. Additional applications include use in load banks, dynamic braking systems, motor control, or as a protective resistor. The rated power handling can be enhanced through forced air cooling or by mounting the resistor onto a heat sink.
